Are you waiting on a Rescuer?

They waited for years, centuries.

Waiting for that King to come and rescue them from their oppressors.  From the people who did things contrary to what they had been taught.

They sometimes got caught up in the society around them. Fell into the same pit of sin that everyone else around them was wallowing in.

But, oh, they were sorry, they repented, they cried out to their God, they pleaded for a King.

They kept hoping for Someone to turn things around and lead them into victory.  To be on the winning side.

And so a King was sent.  He came to conquer, to reign.

But the people, the majority, missed it.

And they killed Him.

His people thought it was over.  No King = no kingdom.

But He had only begun setting up his Kingdom.  He had only begun to reign.

We keep waiting.  Waiting for that right person to come into government.  To rescue us from those who do thing contrary to what we believe.

We sometimes (quite often) get caught up in the society around us.  We all fall into the same pit of sin, for all have sinned and fallen short.

But, oh, we are sorry, we repent, we cry out to God, pleading for a change in this country, this world.

We need some good people in powerful places to turn things around.  We want to be on the winning side.

But the King has already been sent.  He has already conquered.  He's already reigning.

But the majority is missing it.

He cannot  be killed.  Cannot be silenced.

His Kingdom is being built right now.  In hearts that humbly turn to Him.  Lives that are willing to give up their own desires, laying them at the foot of the cross.

We don't have to wait on some human to be a conqueror, a rescuer.  In this world, you will have trouble, but take heart, for He has already overcome the world.

Come, set Your rule and reign
In our hearts again
Increase in us we pray
Unveil why we're made
Come, set our hearts ablaze with hope
Like wildfire in our very souls
Holy Spirit come invade us now
We are Your church
We need Your power in us

We seek Your kingdom first
We hunger and we thirst
Refuse to waste our lives
For You're our joy and prize
To see the captive hearts released
The hurt, the sick, the poor at peace
We lay down our lives for Heaven's cause

We are Your church
We pray: revive this earth

Build Your kingdom here
Let the darkness fear
Show Your mighty hand
Heal our streets and land
Set Your church on fire
Win this nation back
Change the atmosphere
Build Your kingdom here
We pray

Unleash Your kingdoms power
Reaching the near and far
No force of Hell can stop
Your beauty changing hearts
You made us for much more than this
Awake the kingdom seed in us
Fill us with the strength and love of Christ
